It's evident that we have gotten off the beaten path that our ancestors made for us.  What was it that made them seem so care free yet, it seemed they had all they needed to create a loving environment for us and all who were graced to know them?  One obvious point is they took the time to get to know people.  Bills still needed to be paid.  Dead lines still needed to be met, yet, those of us above forty can remember the wonderful times of just sitting and talking, being neighborly as they called it.  No one was talking about their investment portfolio, or how close they are to getting that promotion; it was if there was an unwritten constitution that banned the expression of anything foreign to being at ease and enjoying the company of people and heart felt conversation.  There was a commercial that set the scene around a camping outing with friends.  One individual, while holding a beer, commented, "You know, it just doesn't get any better than this.  The idea was to sell beer.  But it wasn't the beer that made it so great, it was the getting away from the hurried pace of the world and slowing down and taking notice of what was much more rewarding; sitting around with nothing but good friends and good conversation.

I said all that to say this concerning why a word gift is great for gift giving.  First of all, if it's from the heart, all other gestures pale in comparison to verbally exposing yourself to a loved one.  Anyone can give a purchased outward gift.  And even a gift made with your own hands can come across as attempting to be cheap.  But no one can replicate the gift of sentimental words from the heart.  Even words written by someone else can build a solid foundation as long as you assure the recipient that they are the exact sentiment that you have for them in your heart, but have difficulty putting them in words.  So before you get out that credit card and charge your next dinner date or gift, consider opting for a word based gift instead or as an add on.  I promise you will be pleasantly pleased.  No gift brings on the water works like a verbal expression of your innermost feelings for your loved one.
